Ms. Yolanda M. Trotman is the owner of the Law Office of Yolanda M. Trotman, PLLC. She formed the Firm in February 2005 after a previous partnership of the law firm of Garza & Trotman, PLLC.

Ms. Trotman is from High Point, North Carolina. She graduated from UNC-Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1996 with a BA in History, and was a member of the Phi Alpha Theta Honors Society in History. She was extremely active in a variety of leadership roles in several campus organizations.

Upon graduation from UNC-Charlotte, she taught History and coached Debate and Speech at North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville, North Carolina for three years. While a high school teacher, she was honored as Charlotte-Mecklenburg First Year Teacher of the Year, received commendation as a top Debate and Speech coach in North Carolina, and coached two very successful Mock Trial teams. She also advised several student organizations, and founded the North Mecklenburg Chapter of Students Against Violence Everywhere, (SAVE).

Ms. Trotman's love of the law could not be denied. She decided to leave teaching in 1999 and attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was very active in a number of organizations, and had great success in the Mock Trial and Moot Court programs. She was a Legal Writing Teaching Fellow, and her community involvement was recognized with a Community Service Award from the Law School. She was Managing Editor of The Pittsburgh Journal of Technology Law and Policy. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law with a Juris Doctor in May 2002.

In August 2002, she was admitted to the North Carolina Bar and began her career as an Assistant Public Defender at the 26th Judicial District (Mecklenburg County) Public Defender's Office. She remained active in the community and continued to assist in coaching Mock Trial High School teams. She handled all types of District Court cases, involuntary commitment cases and later exclusively handled drug felony cases before making the decision in August 2004 to leave the Public Defender's office to go into private practice.

Ms. Trotman's areas of practice include all areas and aspects of criminal defense on the State and Federal level, DWI cases, traffic matters Family law, with a concentration in custody and child support matters, and other areas of Family and Domestic law. She also handles some entertainment law and personal injury matters.

Ms. Trotman still continues her love of teaching as an Instructor in the Undergraduate and Graduate Program with the University of Phoenix. She has been an Instructor with the University of Phoenix since 2005. She was also an Adjunct Professor in the UNC-Charlotte Criminal Justice Department from 2003-2004.

Professionally, Ms. Trotman is the former Co-Vice Chair of the Leary Bar Association, and was a Board Member of the Mecklenburg County Bar Young Lawyers Division. She is also a member of the Family Law and Criminal Law Sections of the Mecklenburg County Bar.
