Traffic Matters

At the Law Office of Yolanda M. Trotman, PLLC, we know that all kinds of traffic matters can have a major impact on a person. In many cases, a person can incur insurance points even with a speed reduction that can lead to a major insurance increase for three years. In some cases, the officer that stopped you may have given you the option of paying a fine to handle the matter. However, by paying off a ticket in some cases means you are pleading guilty to an offense, and could result in a possible suspension of one's driver's license!

Choosing the right attorney to handle your traffic matter is important. You need an attorney that will thoroughly analyze your driving history to get the best possible resolution for you. Do not waste several hours in court for a resolution that may not be in your best interest. Let the attorneys at the Law Office of Yolanda M. Trotman, PLLC handle your case for you.

Did you know that Insurance "points" differ somewhat from DMV or motor vehicle points? Did you know that in certain circumstances a reduction of speed can result in insurance points. In some cases, the police officer that issues a citation for speeding may offer the driver a driving school to handle the matter. But in North Carolina, completing a driving school generally does not result in a "dismissal" of the speeding ticket. You would still be convicted of speeding at the speed listed on the citation, but rather than showing DMV points, the letters "PJC" are listed on the DMV record. PJC, means "Prayer for Judgment Continued" and generally does not result in DMV or insurance points.

But did you know the use of a PJC can be limited both for the individual driver and for people who live within the household or who may be listed on an insurance policy? This is important, because oftentimes people complete a class thinking that are earning a PJC, but if someone else on the policy has already used a PJC within a certain number of years, the PJC may not be recognized and the conviction could stand. This can have a serious impact on a driver's insurance rates, and possibly leave the driver facing a possible driver's license suspension. Driving school and the associated PJC may not be the most appropriate options.
